This video features Patti LuPone performing the song "I'd Do Anything from the musical OLIVER at the 1991 Royal Variety Performance. OLIVER! is a stage musical based on the Charles Dickens classic Oliver Twist. It was the first musical adaptation of Dickens' work to become a hit on the stage. The musical's book, music and lyrics were all written by Lionel Bart. OLIVER! opened in London in 1960 and enjoyed a record-breaking run. The producer David Merrick produced the musical on Broadway where it ran nearly two years, and was followed by a return engagement in 1965 following its successful national tour. The show was also adapted into an Academy Award-winning film. There have been a handful of successful revivals of he show in London but only one short-lived Broadway revival in 1984. The revival starred Ron Moody as "Fagin." He originated the role in London and starred in the film, and Patti LuPone as "Nancy." The revival was not successful and ran less than four weeks. The show received a staging as part of New York City Center's Encores series in 2023. 💬 Did you enjoy today's video? Tell me all about it in the comment section below!
