◾ This video features performances of two jazz-style piano solos, both of which are contemporary pieces of the 20th/21st century written by the British composer Pam Wedgwood. ◾ These pieces truly provide the perfect antidote to stress. You can conjure up the smoky, dimly lit atmosphere of a jazz club, and relax with these pieces having a lush harmony and laid-back melody. 📑 ORDER OF THE PIECES: 0:00 Channel Intro 0:05 Wild Poppies - Pam Wedgwood 1:54 Flinders Street - Pam Wedgwood ❓ ABOUT THE FIRST PIECE: ◾ "Wild Poppies" has a slightly fast tempo (or speed), yet, at the same time, it sounds very calming, relaxing & peaceful. The lyrical melody played by the right hand helps in portraying an image of a serene environment, with the left hand harmony complementing it very well. One can imagine the poppy flowers (flower image used in the video) swaying to this piece! ◾ The piece begins with both the hands playing their individual parts in a complementing manner. In the middle of the piece, there is a slight change in the theme due to the increased number of notes played by both hands. Towards the end, the original theme returns, with the piece ending in a calm & composed manner. ❓ ABOUT THE SECOND PIECE: ◾ This piece probably gets its name from the famous "Flinders Street" in Melbourne, Australia, running roughly parallel to the Yarra River. This street serviced Melbourne's original river port. The street is home to "Flinders Street Station", the central station in Melbourne's suburban rail network. ◾ The station (image used in the video) is the busiest one on Melbourne's metropolitan network. The station's current main building was completed in 1909 and is a cultural icon of Melbourne. The distinctive and eclectic Edwardian building, with its prominent dome, arched entrance, tower, and clocks, is one of the city's most recognisable landmarks. ◾ The piece is slow-paced, with a typical jazz-style feel to it. In the middle of the piece, there is a change in the theme, with the original theme returning towards the end of the piece. 🎹 ABOUT THE COMPOSER: ◾ Born in 1947, Pamela (Pam) Wedgwood plays the recorder, piano, French horn & cello. She began her musical career as a professional French Horn player. After her marriage, Pam became a music teacher in Surrey (UK), & began composing pieces for her pupils. Her love for music composition led her to publish over 200 music books. Some of her pieces even feature in music examination syllabi! ◾ Pam is best known for her highly acclaimed series "Jazzin' About" & top-selling tutor "It's Never Too Late to Play Piano". She is recognised as one of the UK's most prolific composers of popular repertoire for young instrumentalists. She now concentrates on composing & teaching. 🎵🎹🎧 LISTEN TO MY OTHER VIDEOS FEATURING JAZZ-STYLE PIANO SOLOS: 1. /watch/4u4EshPpZEqpE 2. /watch/gwifcMr5Q-45f 3. /watch/UvbqyyTE85yEq 🔔 SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL: /channel/UCkUHy3uU9jMuSHCbKA9m-rw ◾ CREDITS: Flinders Street Station Photo by Joan You on Unsplash Selective Focus Photography of Orange Petaled Flower (Wild Poppy) Photo by Susanne Jutzeler from Pexels #WildPoppies #FlindersStreet #PamWedgwood #piano #pianosolo #jazzpiano #jazzmusic #jazz #music #instrumentalmusic #AfterHours #Britishmusic #British #instrumentaljazz #modernmusic #contemporarymusic #newagemusic #20thcenturymusic #Britishcomposer #UK #England #relaxingmusic #relaxingjazz #jazzpiansolo
