This video is about Shaligram Shila Shaligramas are mostly black colored stones with marks and are the fossilized remains of now extinct sea dwelling ammonites. They are typically in the form of spherical, black-colored Ammonoid fossils. Shaligram is an iconic symbol for God Vishnu. Shaligrams are usually collected from river-beds or banks such as the Gandaki river in Nepal. They are also found in some Himalayan Regions. They are easy to carry hence carried for many Puja performances. A good number of false Shaligrams too remain in circulation these days. The largest and heaviest Shaligrama can be seen at the Jagannath Temple, in Puri, Orissa. The main ISKCON temple in Scotland, called 'Karuna Bhavan' is famous for housing the largest number of Shaligram Shilas outside of India A Shaligrama has marks of Shankha, Chakra, Gada and Padma. The name of the Shaligrama stone is decided by the order of the four marks of Shankha, Chakra, Gada and Padma on it. The various orders and names are given for the twenty-four permutations.
